Delcambre suffers tough loss to Many

It has been a rough year for the Delcambre High football team and the Panthers finally get to go home and lick their wounds as the Many Tigers ousted them out of the first round by the final score of 47-7

“It was a 7-7 game early,” Delcambre Head Coach Darcy Delcambre said. “Their (Many) athleticism took over and that was the differnece in the game. Speed is a heck of a tool to have and they have it and used tonight.”

As coach Delcambre menitoned it was a close game in the first quarter, but once many stepped on the gas there was nothing that the Panthers could do to keep up.

It seemed  that Delcambre kept getting in its own way.

“We moved the ball well,” Delcambre said. “We kept putting ourselves into position, we just couldn’t capitalize on the position we put ourself in.”

There were several times through out the game that Delcambre would find themselves on the verge of a play that could sway the tied and just couldn’t make it happen.

On three separate occasions the Panthers had interceptions in their hands and just dropped the pass.

“It was a big plus for us that we were able to get in the right position,” Delcambre said. “We just need to remember to play till the whistle blows. We just have to get better at playing all the way to the end of each play and limit the mistakes, but this is a young team.”

It is a young team for Delcambre and coach Delcambre did go on to say that this is part of the growing pains of having a young team.

“This was a good experience for our young team,” Delcambre said. “This gave them a lot to learn from especially since we were playing a very good team. I mean they are number one for a reason.

“This just showed our kids that if we want to start winning football games next year it starts in the offseason and in all the workouts that come between now and then.”

Even though this is a young football team there are some seniors on the team that played their final high school football game.

“They got emotional,” Delcambre said. “I mean who wouldn’t. You do something for so long you think it won’t end and then all of a sudden its gone. I think it will really sink in in the next week or so.”
