Abbeville hopes to get back to winning ways

The Abbeville Wildcats and Lady Wildcats basketball teams are hoping to get back on the winning side of things.

Both teams will be facing off against North Central tonight at the Abbeville gym.

The season thus far for the Lady Wildcats has resembled a roller coaster.

They have won a couple of games in a row and then lose a couple games.

Their record now stands at 9-10, and they are hoping to get things straightened out before the district schedule begins.

The Lady Wildcats enter this game on a two game losing streak and are hoping to turn things around.

“North Central is a good basketball team,” Lady Wildcats Head Coach Dean Dronet said. “They are very athletic, and will be very tough competition. As long as we can put four quarters together ,and if we can play as a team for all three quarters, then
we should be able to come out of this game with a win.”

Playing as a team is going to be a little tough for the Lady Wildcats as the injury bug has hit the team.

Starting guard Timia Briggs tore her ACL during the Yuletide Tournament and has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

As far as the rest of the team, they are battling some minor injuries, according to coach Dronet.

The starting five will remain the same.

It will feature Barbara Bryant, Arrayia Starlard, Christina Hackshaw, Jada Darby and Bianca Levy.

If the Lady Wildcats want a victory tonight ,they will need a strong showing out these five players.

This game also marks the last game before district play begins.

“We have made a tough schedule for just that moment,” Dronet said. “We wanted our team to be battle tested and ready come district time and now that it is upon us, I think they will be ready. We have a tough district. As always, though if we play as a
team and play the game we know we can play, we can get through the tough competition.”

North Central enters this game with a 13-2 record.

The Wildcats basketball team will also be hosting the North Central boys basketball team.

The Wildcats have had a bit of a down year and are hoping to get things going right before district play begins.

This is the penultimate game before district play begins for the Wildcats.

The Lady Wildcats game begins at 5:30 p.m. and the Wildcats will follow at 7 p.m.
