Hannah Theriot crowned 2009 Gueydan Duck Festival Queen

Blonde and with a Dolly Parton smile, Hannah Kathleen Theriot, was crowned Duck Festival Queen 2009 Saturday afternoon at the Duck Festival Building.

The Vermilion Catholic High School of Abbeville senior is the daughter of Bret Theriot of Lafayette and Karen Theriot of Gueydan.

Her grandparents are Kathleen Theriot and the late Gueydan Chief of Police Wilton “Bubby Theriot and the late Louis “Bye” Hungerford and the late

Mildred Hungerford.

Six contestants including the new queen were competing for the title. The young women were called before judges to be interviewed. They wore street wear or business attire for the interview and later changed into formal wear for their public presentation.

The other contestants included Danielle Harrell of Sulphur, daughter of Jeff and Kathy Harrell. She was chosen first alternate to the queen.

Second alternate was Courtney Hoffpauir, daughter of Dwayne and Karen Hoffpauir of New Iberia.

Third Alternate and Miss Congeniality was Eve Franchebois of Lafayette. Her parents are Luke and Stacey Franchebois.

Another contestant from Gueydan was Danielle Richard, daughter of Steven Richard and Tammy Richard.

Valerie Rue, the sixth contestant, is the daughter of Stephen and Priscilla Richard, and is from Crowley.

Immediately following the contest, the girls were transported to their awaiting float, where the Grand Parade began on Main Street.

Director of the Gueydan Duck Festival Queens Pageant was Ranella McDaniel and her co-director was Judy LeBlanc.
