Erath chief says Brandy Landry's death ruled suicide based on autopsy; funeral set
ERATH - Erath Police Chief Gerald Hebert met with Brandy Suire Landry’s parents to inform them of the findings of the autopsy.
On Sunday, Landry, 30, was found dead in a laundry room below her and her boyfriend’s apartment in Erath. It is still unknown how long she had been dead. She was found at 6:30 p.m. by her boyfriend Clayton Landry.
Tuesday morning, Chief Hebert was expected to tell Donnell Dent, her mother, and Matt Suire, her father, what the autopsy showed.
It showed, according to Chief Hebert, she died by self strangulation.
Chief Hebert said there were no other bruises or marks on her body indicating any foul play.
Clayton Landry, her boyfriend, is the one who discovered her body in the laundry room after not hearing from her in a few days.
Chief Hebert said Clayton Landry informed the Chief that Brandy would leave him, and he could go days without hearing from her. After not hearing from her since Thursday, Clayton told the Chief he thought she had left him. He was home upstairs the entire time she was below him.
The two had lived in the Erath apartment for only a few months. They are originally from Abbeville.
Chief Hebert said, on Sunday, Clayton decided to go to the laundry room under the apartment but could not get in because it was locked.
He looked in a side window and saw Brandy.
Clayton ran to the Erath Police Station, which was not far from his apartment, and told them what he saw.
The Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office assisted the Erath Police Department at the scene.
Brandy’s body was released Tuesday to the family in order for funeral arrangements to be made.
