Vermilion Catholic’s Lege named Abbeville Kiwanis Student of the Month

Tyler Lege rarely has much downtime.
The Vermilion Catholic senior holds a 4.0 GPA and is a member of the school’s Beta Club and National Honor Society.
Lege’s Fridays this fall have been spent as a member of the undefeated, No. 2-ranked Eagles football team.  He is also on the golf and basketball teams.
So Lege, the son of Duane and Courtney Lege, is well deserving of any recognition he receives. He got some of that attention Tuesday from the Abbeville Kiwanis Club. The group named Lege the upcoming Kiwanis Student of the Month for November. He will receive a sign to put in his front yard, along with a gift card to Sonic in Abbeville.
“Anytime you get an award like this it is always an honor,” Lege said. “That is especially true when it comes from  an organization that is so active in the community.”
Active fits when it comes to describing Lege. He said balance is the key in making it all work.
“Balance is definitely very important in my life,” he said. “I am kind of particular about my routine and schedules.
“I try to just work, find time for this, find time for that and find a good time to go to bed.”
The built-in schedule helps.
“Everything is already kind of structured for me,” Lege said. “I have school from morning until 3 (p.m.) Then I have football until 6. Then I go home, eat and do my homework. Then I try to get to bed as soon as possible.
“It works.”
While he is enjoying the rewards of the present, Lege has a plan for the future. That includes majoring in chemical engineering at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
“I want to focus on chemical engineering because it is a big industry around here,” Lege told the Kiwanians. “I also think it suits me well because people have always told me since I was young that I have an engineering mind. I do enjoy math and science.”
Like the rest of the team, and much of the community, Lege is enjoying the Eagles’ 8-0 run through the first eight weeks of the football season. The No. 2 Eagles can wrap up the District 7-1A title Friday when the play host to Hanson Memorial.
“It’s seems like everyone is interested in football right now,” Lege said.
To answer the question of how long he feels the Eagles’ success will last, Lege offered a quick answer.
“I really don’t know because that is all up to chance,” Lege said. “We have a goal and we are going to work hard to get there.”
Hard work fits Lege.
“I like being busy,” Lege said. “I’m a workaholic by nature. I always have to find something to do.
“If I have any free time, I am going to find something to do.”
