Linest Pierre Saltzman

Funeral services were held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wednesday, November 12, 2008, at 11:30 a.m. for Linest Pierre Saltzman, 81, who died Monday, November 10, 2008.

Interment was in the St. Joseph Cemetery #2.

Mr. Saltzman was a World War II veteran, having served in Okinawa, Japan, with the 325th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion. Upon his return from Japan he worked as a farm implement mechanic in Kaplan. He later worked in the oil and gas drilling industry. Mr. Saltzman retired from Ocean Drilling and Exploration Co. as a drilling superintendent in worldwide operations.

Surviving are his wife, Yvonne Saltzman; sons, Gerald Saltzman and wife Jeanette of Youngsville, and Norman Saltzman and wife Dena of Duson; daughters, Debra Albarado and husband John of Lafayette, and Sandra Peltier and husband Patrick of Abbeville; step-children, Betty d’Augereau and husband Martial of Kaplan, Barbara Duhon and husband Ronald of Abbeville, Marie Broussard of Abbeville, Kenneth Brasseaux and wife Tena of Rayne, and Debra Fontenot of Lawtell; 15 grandchildren, 13 step-grandchildren, 17 great-grandchilden, 16 step-great-grandchildren; brother, Shelton Saltzman and wife Clara of Kaplan; and sisters, Olite Guidry of Kaplan, and Laura Mae Henry of Gueydan.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Wadley Saltzman; brothers-in-laws, Uland Guidry, Sr. and Leroy Henry; and a grandson, Norman Saltzman, II.

He was born January 27, 1927, in Gueydan, to the late Minos Saltzman and the late Oza Abshire.

He was a member of American Legion Post #29 in Abbeville, member and past master Masonic Lodge #429 in Gueydan, Live Oak Lodge #346 in Lake Arthur, NRA and Shriners.

Pallbearers were Brian Saltzman, Scott Saltzman, Brad Saltzman, Steven Saltzman, Christopher Albarado and Chase Peltier.

Honorary pallbearers were Brody Peltier, Sam Albarado and Kenneth Brasseaux.

Friends were received 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 11, and 8:00 a.m. until services Wednesday, November 12.

Arrangements were entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home, Inc. of Rayne.
