Krewe de la Renaissance

The Krewe de la Renaissance Acadienne held its 8th annual ball at seven-thirty in the evening on Saturday, February 22, 2014 in the Ramada Lafayette Conference Center. The theme of the ball was “Get Shanghaied”.
Reigning over the festivities were Krewe de la Renaissance Acadienne’s King VIII, Dr. Lance Savoie, and Queen VIII, Kallen Boudreaux Belanger.

King Dr. Lance Savoie a practicing dentist in the city of Abbeville. He is married to Debra Churchman Savoie and together they have three children, Malory, a sophomore at Erath High School, and Phillip and Nathan who attend 4th grade at LeBlanc Elementary.

His Queen, Kallen Boudreaux Belanger, is married to Scott Belanger and together they have two children, Erik (16) and Leah (11). Erik is a sophomore at Erath High School and Leah is a sixth grade student at Erath Middle School. Kallen manages a successful monogramming business and is a certified Personal Trainer.

Presenting the night’s program was Brian Campbell. In following the Chinese tradition, King Renaissance the VIII and Queen Renaissance the VIII were crowned Emperor and Empress. The Emperor and Empress, and the Royal Court, took ball attendees on a magical journey to China. Former Kings and Queens from Renaissance, as well as visiting royalty, were recognized as special guests for the evening.

Assisting as the night’s Huángji Hùháng (Royal Escorts) were Stephen Bares, Dewey Domingues, Philip Savoie, and Nathan Savoie. The audience was taken on a trip to China via Air Bangkok with Cajun Wife and Cajun Panda, played by Stephanie Broussard and Larry Lee. Once the couple arrived in China, they were greeted by a Dragon Parade led by Michelle Caldwell, Tommy Terrebonne, Troy Noel, Kelli LeBlanc, Karla Toups, Gail Lee, Victoria Baudin, Bliss Romero, Joan Broussard, Frankie Romero, and Victoria Baudoin. The King and Queen were entertained by traditional and non-traditional Male and Female Fan Dancers. The beautiful Geisha Fan Dancers for the evening were Alex Granger, Leah Belanger, Mallory Savoie, Tiffany Granger, Leah Toups, Karen Young, Alison Domingues, Becky Bares, Kayla Lucas, and Tanna Harrington.

The very entertaining Kabuki Fan Dancers for the evening were Jason Roy, Kevin Bigot, Chris Lopez, Blake Broussard, Trey Dugal, Steven Caldwell, Mike Touchet, and Todd Lucas. The room was all blacked out and the audience was captivated by an illumination show and dance performed by Tron Dancers Amy Noel, Monique Terrebonne, Jessica Roy, Theresa Touchet, Demetri Lopez, Kristin Vincent, Tammy Comeaux, and Kaitlyn Broussard. The crowd enjoyed the performances of Kung Fu Fighters Ryan Leblanc, Barry Toups, Mike Young, Eric Leblanc, Marcus Romero, Seth Comeaux, and Frankie Romero.

The finale of the evening included all royalty members, as well as the King and Queen, joining the Kung Fu Fighters for a “flash mob style” rendition of Kung Fu Fighting. The rubbing of the Buddha’s belly, played by Carl “Coco” Broussard, led to the traditional second line parade where royal court members threw beads and trinkets to the attending guests while dancing to Wang Chung tonight. Concluding the evening was live entertainment by the band, Side Show.
