21-year-old Rayne man dies in auto accident in Lafayette

Authorities have identified the driver killed in an early morning crash on Johnston Street as 21-year-old Andrew Abshire of Rayne.

On January 21, 2014, at approximately 2 a.m., Lafayette police responded to a crash in the 1700 block of Johnston Street involving a single vehicle.

According to investigators, a 2003 red Toyota Tundra was traveling south on Johnston Street when for unknown reasons left the south side of the roadway. The vehicle initially struck a utility police before overturning and striking a residence.

The driver of the vehicle, Andrew Abshire was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other occupants in the vehicle.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
