Panthers and Lady Panthers return home

Both the Delcambre Panthers and Lady Panthers are hoping that the calendar flipping from 2013 to 2014 will mark not only the beginning of the new year, but the beginning of winning basketball.

The beginning of the basketball season was a bit turbulent for both the Panthers and Lady Panthers.

The Panthers started the season on the right foot with two wins right off the bat. Then a bit of bad luck and some cold shooting performances, saw the Panthers lose four straight.

It looked as though they had found their shooting touch with a win against Erath, but losing two straight in the Hanson Tournament proved otherwise.

“We just can’t seem to make our shots,” Panthers Head Coach Johnny Trangmar said. “I’m very proud the boys are able to get the good open looks, they just aren’t able to knock them down, and you have to make your shots
to have a chance to win.”

The Panthers look to rebound as they will play host to Ascension Episcopal, the last game before district play begins for the Panthers.

“We can’t worry too much about district play,” Trangmar said. “We just have to worry about our game. If we focus on making our shots and getting better at rebounding then we should be alright.”

Despite the 3-6 record, the Panthers have been competitive. Of their six losses, only one is by more than five points.

The Lady Panthers season seems to be on an uptick at the moment.

The season started with a three game losing streak, but over the past six games the Lady Panthers have gone 3-3 and are starting to play some of their best basketball of the season, according to head coach Lisa Richard.

The Lady Panthers are playing host to the Erath Bobcats.

Now if you want to see both of these teams play, you are going to have to get out to the Delcambre gym pretty early in the afternoon.

The Panthers JV team will play at 2. The Panthers varsity game against AES is scheduled for 3, and the tip-off for the Lady Panthers match-up against the Lady Bobcats follows at 4:30 p.m.
