Erath wins nail biter

The name of the game was defense in the second round game between the Erath Lady Bobcats and the North Vermilion Lady Patriots, which saw the Lady Bobcats eek out a 26-24 victory.

“We didn’t show up to play tonight,” Erath Head Coach Andrea Bernard said. “With that being said they regrouped and found a way to come out ahead at the end of the game.”

At the end of the first quarter it was tied 2-2.

Gabby Harringting for Erath and Lanie Breaux for North Vermilion had the lone buckets of the first quarter.

The Lady Pats found the bucket a little more often in the second quarter with Simone Pillette scoring five of her team high eight points in the second quarter.

At half time the Lady Pats had the advantage 9-4.

The offense picked up a bit in the third quarter with both team scoring 10 points in the quarter.

The Lady Pats still had a five point advantage going into the fourth quarter.

Breaux would make an early lay-up to give the Lady Pats a seven point lead, and after that it was all Erath.

“We just panicked too much in the end, when we really didn’t need to,” North Vermilion Head Coach Phillip Freeman. “There were just too many fouls and they (Erath) were just clutch when it came to making free throws.”

In the fourth quarter Erath erased a seven point deficit by making 10 of its 14 free throw opportunities.

Most of those free throws came from Gabby Harrinton.

She accounted for 10 of the 14 free throw attempts in the fourth quarter and made eight of them. She was also the teams leading scorer with 12

“Gabby (Harritngton) was clutch for us tonight,” Bernard said. “She knew they would be playing aggressive so she took advantage of that and got to the line. It was really big for us to be good from the free throw line,
especially late in the game.”

Behind Harrington in scoring was Alexa Faulk who scored six points on two three point shots in the third quarter.

Pillette led the way for the Lady Pats with eight points and next in line was Morgan Harrington and Catherine Touchet who each scored five.

With this win it marks the first time the Lady Bobcats have started 4-0 in the four years coach Bernard has been with the team.
