Delcambre travels to Jeanerette

The Delcambre Panthers are set to bounce back this week as they travel to Jeanerette for a big district game.

“They [Jeanerette] are in a situation where they have some pretty talented athletes,” Delcambre’s head coach Darcy Delcambre said. “A lot of their uncertainty is in their quarterback situation. They aren’t settled in on any one thing.”

But that makes them all the more unpredictable, Delcambre warned.

“If you are about to tackle them on one side of the field,” he explained, “they can suddenly be on the other side of the field to make a play.”

Defensively, Jeanerette loads up the line to make a play. “You can see them put eight, nine or even ten guys in the box to try to stop the run,” Delcambre said. “We’ve been spending the week working on that.”

Three straight losses have the Panthers a little down, but they aren’t giving up, according to their coach.

“We’ve got to give the kids credit,” he said. “They come back to practice every time and work hard. You can’t say that there is a lack of effort on their part.”

With the end of the season approaching, the importance of this game weighs heavily on the Panthers team. While they are expected to do well against Jeanerette, there is a tough gauntlet ahead.

Opelousas Catholic, a fresh face to the district, is coming up as the Panthers travel there for their second-to-last game.

After that, the Panthers will host... the Panthers. The Catholic High squad out of New Iberia will be the final, and arguably the toughest, challenge for the Delcambre team this year.

The kickoff time for the Delcambre/Jeanerette game is set for 7 p.m. Friday night.

“We control our own destiny,” Delcambre said about his team. “It’s important that we win this week if we have a shot for anything after the season.
