Mayards celebrate golden anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert (Sonny) Mayard, Jr. of Abbeville celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on September 24, 2015.
The couple exchanged wedding vows on September 24, 1965, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in New Iberia.
Mrs. Mayard is the former Gail Romero of New Iberia.
The Mayards were blessed with two 50th wedding celebrations. The first celebration was in July when the couple spent a week in South Dakota at Mount Rushmore and a week in Aurora, Colorado, with son, Chad Mayard and wife, Julie, and their family.
The couple was honored with a private family gathering at Hebert’s Steakhouse in Nunez with daughter, Angie Hebert and husband, Jason, and family and friends.
The Mayards have six grandchildren: Joshua Hebert and wife Mandy; Kaitlin Hebert, Courtney Mayard, Tabitha Wickline and husband, Jake, Jacob Mayard and wife, Shelby and Rachel Mayard. They also have six great-grandchildren: Jonah and Ryder Wickline, Lily Mayard and Hailey, Jonah and Noah Hebert.
