Vermilion Parish School Board appoints two new principals; hires new director

Two schools in Vermilion Parish now have new principals, after the Vermilion Parish School Board approved the hiring.

Replacing long-time principal Charles Robichaux at Meaux Elementary is Susan Stephen, who is the curriculum interventionist for the school board, a position she has had for at least five years. Stephen also has 17 years of being a principal in the state’s private school system.

Robichaux has been at the school since 1983. Stephen takes over July 1.

Christina Menard, a former Abbeville High teacher who had been the assistant principal for 1.5 years at AHS, is named the new principal at Indian Bayou Elementary.

She will be replacing Howard Guillory, who is retiring from the school system.

Prior to being the assistant principal at AHS, Menard was the assistant principal at Eaton Park Elementary in Abbeville.

The school board also approved the hiring of the parish’s first-ever Director of School Leadership in the parish. Dr. James Gray, who is from Iberia Parish, was named. Dr. Gray is the principal at Westgate High School in Iberia Parish.

Kenyatta Small, the assistant principal at J.H. Williams Middle School in Abbeville, is named the new transportation supervisor.

Filling the assistant principal vacancy at J.H. Williams Middle School will be Dana Primeaux, the assistant principal now at Gueydan High School.

On Monday, the assistant principal jobs at Abbeville High and Gueydan High will become open.

•Stephanie Broussard was transferred to Cecil Picard Elementary from Indian Bayou Elementary
