Trahan starts 24-hour taxi service in Abbeville

One night, David Trahan was sitting in a bar next to a drunk person who was about to drive home. Trahan offered him a ride, which he took, which was the start of Safeway Taxi (Unlimited) - the only taxi company in Abbeville that has a permit from the city.

That was in August and Trahan continues offering his driving services throughout Vermilion Parish. For $5, he will drive you anywhere in Abbeville.

“I enjoy helping people. If you call, I will try and get there in five minutes. I am the only 24-hour taxi service in Vermilion Parish,” said Trahan.

Safeway Taxi has two vehicles that service his company. Because of his love for helping people, Trahan is expanding his company to help the needy. He opened a side company called Safeway Unlimited. Because he enjoys helping people, Trahan is now offering a service where he will pick up groceries or medical supplies for those in need. He will go to the grocery store, pick up the bags of groceries and then deliver them to whomever. Or, if someone does not have time to make it to the cleaners or drug store, Trahan offers his service.

While what he does requires risk, Trahan said if you treat people with respect, they will treat you with respect. He does not carry a gun, but he does carry a Taser.

The 41-year-old Trahan is familiar with the streets of Abbeville because he has worked for Domino’s Pizza in Abbeville. He also has a GPS system that makes it easy to find homes.

Safeway Taxi (523-5058) also provides pop-a-lock service and roadside service.

Lynn Guillory of the Chamber of Commerce said Vermilion Parish is in need of a taxi service. While it will help provide transportation to those who live in the parish, it will also help visitors find destinations in the parish.
