Vermilion Football League to host Punt, Pass and Kick competition

The Vermilion Football League in conjunction with the New Orleans Saints and USA Football are hosting an NFL Punt, Pass and Kick Competition for the first time in Vermilion Parish.
The competition will be held at A.A. Comeaux park this Sunday, June 8th.
It is open to all kids ages 6-15.
The competition will begin at 10 a.m. and will be over when a winner from each age group is announced.
The competition is free for all who are willing to participate, and registration can be done the day of the competition.
Lawrence Williams, the commissioner of the Vermilion Football League, is excited to be hosting this competition.
“We are real excited,” Williams said. “We have sent mail out to most of the kids that have played football with us in the past, and so far have gotten a lot of response from the kids and their parents.
“People have had a lot of questions, and we have been trying to answer as many of them as we can, but overall everyone seems to be excited about the competition, and we think it will be a good thing for the parish.”
As of Tuesday, Williams said he had already received 63 kids sign up for the competition.
Since it is a free event, he expects 20-30 more kids sign up on Sunday.
The average local competition usually has around 40-50 entries, so the VFL is already ahead of the average.
The winners of the local competition will move on to a sectional competition that will be held during a New Orleans Saints game sometime in September.
“We (VFL) are so use to putting on football games,” Williams said. “So this is a little different for us all, but it is a good thing. It gives us a chance to do something different for the kids in the parish, and it gives them a chance to compete in events that take a little skill.”
The competition is set to start at 10 a.m. at A.A. Comaeux park this Sunday, June 8th.
Again, it is free for all children ages 6-15, and since it is free, registration can be done the morning of the competition.
