VC wins third straight Regional track meet
The regional track meet is the penultimate track meet of the season for all of the teams across Louisiana.
If individuals were fortunate enough to qualify for the regional track, then all of their hopes and dreams of making it to the State Championship track meet rest in their performance in the regional track meet.
For the Vermilion Catholic Eagles they were able to qualify 12 different athletes in 10 different sports.
On top of qualifying a large portion of their team, they also managed to win the regional track meet, for the third straight year, with 133 points.
The next closest teams was Oberlin and they only managed to score 66 points.
“I am real proud of the effort our team gave,” VC track coach George Vezeay said. “This is our third consecutive regional championship, and we are going to have our team in 10 different events at the State meet. I couldn’t be prouder.
The Eagles will be apart of four field events.
Kyle Zenon will be vying for three state championships, as he qualified in the shot put competition, with a winning throw of 52-09.
He will also be apart of the discus throw with a winning toss of 165’, and he also won the javelin throw with a hurl of 181’
Trey Ryder finished second in the shot put with a throw of 45-01.
Paul Veazey qualified for state in the discus throw by coming in second with a throw of 153-10.
Andre Girouard will be attending the state championship meet in the javelin event with a third place finish of 160’.
Jacob David placed second in the triple jump competition with a jump of 40-04, which earned him a spot at the state meet.
The relay teams for the Eagles all qualified for the state meet.
The 4x100 relay team consisting of Emile Trahan, Connor Menard, Mike Campbell and David Trappey finished second with a time of 44.6.
The 4x200 relay team finished third with a time of 1:32, the 4x200 meter relay team was the same as the 4x100 meter relay team.
The 4x400 meter relay team consisting of Mike Campbell, Will Faulk, David Trappey and Connor Menard won the 4x400 event with a time of 3:37.
Will Faulk also qualified for the state meet in the 800 meter race by finished second with a time of 2:08.
Nate Silar and Peyton Trahan both qualified for the state meet in both the 110- and 300-meter hurdles races.
Silar won both events with a time of :16.2 in the 110 meter hurdles, and :42.5 in the 300 meter hurdles events.
Trahan placed second in the 110 hurdles with a time of :17.4, and third in the 300 hurdles with a time of :45.4.
The state meet is set to take place next Friday.
