VC Lady Eagles last regular season game, no contest

The VC Lady Eagles walked onto the court at the Kim "Gidge" Guidry Gymnasium for the last time during the regular season as they faced off against district rival Highland Baptist.

When they walked off the court, they had found themselves winning by the final margin of 64-9.

“It was a good team effort,” Lady Eagles Head Coach Kim Guidry said. “My speech to the kids every game is not to play to the level of your competition, but to go out there and play Lady Eagles basketball, and they did just that tonight.”

The Lady Eagles got off to a quick 25-0 lead at the end of the first quarter, and then pushed it to a 43-0 lead heading into the halftime break.

Highland Baptist didn't score their first points of the game until there was 30 second left in the game.

“We played a great team game,” Guidry said. “We had a lot of great play from the girls off of the bench and we had a lot of team sharing. Everyone was sharing the ball on offense and hustling on defense. I couldn’t ask for anything else.”

VC has 17 girls listed on the roster for the varsity team. Of those 17 girls, 15 of them scored tonight.

The Lady Eagles that scored tonight: Kaylen Collins 16, Bella Doucet 10, Leah Camel 6, Kaylee White 5, Kelly White 4, Haley Faulk 4, Ashailee Brailey 4, Ellen Langlinais 3, Zanesia Bernard 2, Olivia Chiasson 2, Katie Frith 2, Kirsten Broussard 2,
Meredith Stutes 2, Lexi Langlinais 1 and Caroline David 1.

The Lady Eagles will now have to sit and wait until Saturday to find out who they will be facing off against in the State Championship Playoffs.

“The only regret I have on the season is we couldn’t find a game for this Friday,” Guidry said. “No one had an open date. So because of that we are probably going to have to go seven or eight days in between games. We will just have to work
that much harder in practice to stay in our rhythm we have going right now.”
