Ben Harrington is the new VC baseball coach.

VC baseball team has new head coach

Vermilion Catholic’s new baseball coach Ben Harrington has a lot of head coaching experience despite only being 30 years old.
Harrington, a McNeese University graduate, has been the head baseball coach at Oberlin High and then Merryville High School for the last two years.
He was content at Merryville until his future wife got a job in Lafayette.
Harrington is friends with Stephen Adams, who had been the VC head baseball coach the last couple of years. When Harrington learned his girl friend was moving to Lafayette, he called Adams in search of a teaching/coaching job in the area.
That phone call occurred last year at the end of the high school baseball season. Harrington applied and was hired as the assistant baseball coaching job at Vermilion Catholic at the end of last season.
Adams elected to step down as the head baseball coach and Harrington was then offered the job. He had only been the assistant coach for a week.
“I was happy either way,” said Harrington. “I was confident because I had been a head coach before.”
When the season got underway, Harrington was blessed with 26 players on his roster.
Harrington got a chance to see his squad for the first time Thursday against Delcambre High.
