Trahan strikes out 14 in Kaplan's win over Iota

Kaplan beat Iota behind Abby Trahan’s 14 strikeouts, 3-0, in the opening game of the Class 3A state tournament on Friday.
Trahan struck out 14 and only gave up three hits.
The Kaplan Lady Pirates were led by Alexa Lege’s hitting. Lege went 3-for-4 and drove in one. She singled in the first, second, and sixth innings.
The Lady Pirates put the game away in the second inning, scoring two runs.
Jennifer Faulk led off the inning by reaching first base when she got hit by a pitch. Kenzie Gaspard placed a sac bunt and moved her to second base.
Dawn Bruton singled passed third base to put runners on the corners.
Meagan Hebert continued the inning with a single that loaded the bases.
Alexa Lege singled home a run (1-0) and the bases continued to be loaded.
Trahan hit a deep shot to the outside that scored a run.
Two runs is all Abby would need.
Top hitters for Kaplan in the first game were Megan Hebert (2-for-4), Olivia Trahan (1-for-3) and Dawn Bruton (1-for-1).
Kaplan is scheduled to play Parkview on Saturday in the semifinal round. Game time is at 1 p.m.
