Pitcher Abby Trahan of Kaplan

Trahan earns All-American honors for Kaplan

She is also named MVP in parish and state

No Kaplan athlete will leave school with as many honors as Kaplan pitcher Abby Trahan did.
First, she helped her team win a Class 3A State softball title and was voted the MVP of the Class 3A state tournament.
She then followed that by that being named MVP of Vermilion Parish, along with being named the state MVP in Class 3A.
Just those awards alone are pretty impressive. But then this week, she earned an award that no parish softball player has ever earned.
Trahan learned she earned first All-America honors by being named to the CBS/MaxPrep.com’s small school All-American first team.
“This is probably one of the best,” Trahan said of the honor in Friday’s Advocate Newspaper. “This and winning (Class 3A) state (title) are the top two. This is awesome that I was chosen.”
Trahan went 23-5 with a career-high 301 strikeouts in 163 innings, a 0.73 ERA and six no-hitters. She batted .482 with seven doubles, six homers and 28 RBIs.
The website, MaxPreps, selects 29 players on its first team. The Kaplan graduate was one of 10 pitchers selected.
“That’s a tribute to her and how hard she’s worked,” Kaplan coach Shay Herpin said. “It’s awesome to have people like that in your program. This is a great thing for our program.”
Herpin was selected as the Class 3A Coach of the Year in Louisiana, as well as the parish coach of the year.
Joining Trahan on the All-Parish team from Kaplan are Alexa Lege (.475) and Olivia Trahan (.434) as infielders. and Shelbee Lege and Megan Hebert as utility players.
North Vermilion Lady Patriots were a power house in the regular season behind a tough batting line up and dynamic pitching.
All-State pitcher Shelby Breaux (23-3, 117 strikeouts, ERA 1.67), along with all-state outfielder Elise Vincent (.505, 7 RBI), all-state catcher Demi Boudreaux (.505, 60 RBI, 9 HR), outfielder Kaylee Lopez (.602, 60 RBI, 9 HR), first baseman Claire Meyers (.440, 40 RBI, 8 HR) and utility player Adele Vincent (.458, 32 RBI)earned all-parish honors.
Vermilion Catholic had four players earn All-Parish honors. Taylor Abshire at pitcher, Ainsley Mallet as an infielder, Bella Doucet in the outfield and Zenisia Bernard as a utility player.
Haley Campbell of Erath landed on the all-parish as a utility player while teammate Maci Viator as a pitcher.
