Sitting with……Joshua Langlinais of VC

Joshua Gary Langlinais is a 17 year old senior at Vermilion Catholic High School. His parents are Ben and Kathy Langlinais. He is a member of the cross country team.

How long have you been running cross country?
I’ve been running since freshman year.

Do you remember the first time you ran a mile? How old were you?
I do remember. My sister did cross country and she motivated me well enough to run with her, teaching me how to pace myself and breathe properly. I was probably nine years old then.

What is it about running that you like and do not like?
There isn’t much about running that I don’t like. It is something I can do at the end of every day and relieve all the stress and aggravation that I built up. I think that’s what makes it so amazing to me is having an outlet and feeling better about myself which keeps me well motivated in everything I do.

When you are running, do you listen to music?
I usually always listen to music when I run on my own time. During cross country practice, I normally don’t because coach tells us not to.

If so, what kind?

I like to listen to really upbeat songs generally because it influences me to go faster. I like music by an artist called Odesza.
It’s a different sounding style of music and I like different. When I’m feeling like going at a slow pace for a longer distance, I like to listen to slow songs. Music definitely has a big impact on me, so it helps me a lot when I’m
trying to stay motivated to run.

How many miles do u run a week to train?
On average during the season, I like to run about 25 miles a week.

When you are not running, what other hobbies do you have?
I actually teach myself a lot of piano. I’ve taken lessons with my sister when I was probably six years old, but I quit after the first year because my sister quit and I didn’t want to do it without her.
Although I quit, I continued to challenge myself to learn more songs. Another thing I like doing is rebuilding our camp that burned down a few years ago. It’s a great experience to see the construction of our future camp.

What is your favorite subject in school?
Any kind of math. This year I’m taking a Calculus class and I am really enjoying it.

Why?
I am a huge math nerd. I’ve always done well in math and it just makes sense to me. I work well with numbers and I like to solve problems.

Where would you like to be in six years?
I would like to be in medical school. I want to be a General Practitioner. I would hope that I would be married as well. Who know’s what life will have in store for me.

What are your plans after high school?
I will go to college at LSU in Baton Rouge and major in Biology. I am optimistic about having a summer job at the beach such as: being a lifeguard or being a deckhand for charter fishing trips. I have high hopes to accomplish as many things I desire to do.

What would be your dream college to attend?
It has to be LSU. There are no questions about it.

Why?
LSU just has that right kind of atmosphere that I’m comfortable in. It is the college that I can picture myself at with the right amount of resources I need to have a successful education. I will be an LSU Tiger.

If you could meet one person in the World, who would be it be and why?
I would love to meet my great grandparents. I think it would be eye opening to have them explain where I come from so that I understand why I look and act the way I do today.

Are you a half full or half empty kind of person?

I can be a very half full kind of person. For example, when I run, I have to stay motivated and look at how far I’ve come and how much farther I have left in a race. Similarly, with my life, I like to try to stay positive and keep thinking optimistically. I obviously have high expectations of myself and have huge plans for my future. I like to dream big and go for it.

Tell us something about you that few know?
I am a very open book. I don’t like to hold back on who I am or what I do. The only thing that people might not know about me is that I play piano.
