Shane Stelly inducted into Abbeville High Hall of Fame

Shane Stelly was a man of few words when he was a student at Abbeville High School and 26 years later, he is still a man of few words.
Stelly was inducted into the Abbeville High School Athletic Hall of Fame on Thursday night held at the Abbeville Country Club.
His former youth and American Legion baseball coach, Jessie Faulk had more to say about Stelly than Stelly did.
“Shane could have played any position,” said Faulk. “When he played or practiced, you never heard anything from him. He was low keyed, but he let his actions on the field do all the talking.”
Stelly thanked his parents for bringing him to practice while growing up, which helped make him a Hall of Fame baseball player. He thanked all his coaches, including Abbeville High’s former baseball coach Tommy Spillman, who is deceased.
Stelly graduated from Abbeville High School in 1988 and had a stellar baseball career for four years.
As a freshman pitcher, he had a 5-0 record and 2-0 in district.
Things only got better his sophomore, junior and senior years.
His senior year he earned all-district and all-parish MVP honors in baseball. That year he had an outstanding 8-0 record with a .89 ERA during the regular season. In district, Stelly was untouchable, going 4-0 with an ERA of .35.
While his arm was gold, his bat was pretty darn good, also.
For three years, he finished with a .400 batting average and six home runs.
Stelly went on to pitch at Angelina Junior College in Lufkin, Texas and was a two-year letterman. In Lufkin, he had a 4-0 record with 10 saves and an ERA of 1.29.
During Angelina’s three playoff games, Stelly closed all three, sporting an ERA of 0.00. He averaged two strikeouts per inning as a closer in the playoffs.
Today, he resides in The Woodlands, Texas with his 14-year-old son, Trenton Jude Stelly and his step-son, Tristan Mark Guerrero.
He has spawned a successful career in the pump engineering sector and currently holds the position of South Central Regional Manager for Midas Flow Control.
