Punt, Pass, and Kick contest winners named
The NFL Punt, Pass and Kick (PPK) program is a national skills competition for boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 15 to compete separately against their peers.
Established in 1961, the PPK program is the oldest NFL Youth Football program.
Girls and boys in five separate age divisions (6-7, 8-9, 10-11, 12-13, and 14-15) compete against each other in punting, passing and place kicking in a fun and engaging forum.
The city of Abbeville held it’s first ever PPK competition this past Sunday at A.A. Comeaux Park, and it was put on by the Vermilion Football League.
“Everything went great,” Lawrence Williams, Commissioner of the Vermilion Football League said. “We had a great turnout of kids. It was hot out there, but the kids showed up and had a great time taking part in the competition.”
According to Williams there was 4-40 kids that showed up to compete in the PPK competition.
“Everything just went so well,” Williams said. “I want to thank everyone that helped make this a great event.
“Everything went so well that this is something that we would like to do every year. I think it is great for not only the kids but the community as well.”
The VFL is in the process of trying to make the PPK an annual thing in Vermilion Parish.
