Pirates’ playoff hopes on the line versus Pios

The Kaplan Pirates have been treating the last few games of the basketball season as playoff games because they are in a do or die situation.

“We know that every game is important,” senior guard Devante Davis said. “Every game is a playoff game, and we aren’t lucky enough to be able to look ahead. So all we are thinking about now is the game against Notre Dame.”

Coach Jeff Davis feels the same way as his star player does.

“It’s win or go home,” Davis said. “We have had that mentality for a few weeks now. We kind of got behind because of the beginning of the season, and all we are thinking about now is the very next game.”

The next game for the Kaplan Pirates could be their last.

The Pirates are traveling to Crowley tonight to take on Notre Dame, which is an important game for the Pirates.

If they win their game and North Vermilion wins their game, both teams will meet for a playoff game to decide the district 6-3A champion.

As it stands now, the Pirates need to be the district champs to make it into the 3A playoff tournament.

The Pirates are currently sitting in the 37th spot in the power rankings and only the top 32 teams and district champs make it into the playoffs.

If the Pirates are going to win this game against the Notre Dame they are going to need to have big games from their big three.

Devante Davis, Blake Touchet and Jalen Bates are going to need to step up and have big games if the Pirates are wanting to win this game against the Pios.

The game against Notre Dame starts tonight at 6 p.m. in Crowley.
