Patriots and Pirates face off in district opener

Now that spring is officially here the baseball teams around Vermilion Parish are finally done with their tournament schedules, and now have the district schedules to look forward to.

The first big game of the class 3A district schedule starts Tuesday at 4 p.m.

“Every game is important now,” Pirates Head Coach Sam Taulli said. “As far as district is concerned is winning the district. Everything after that is just getting points for the power ranking.”

The North Vermilion Patriots (13-1) and the Kaplan Pirates (5-11) are squaring off at North Vermilion’s field Tuesday for the first of two games against each other this week.

“They (North Vermilion) are a really good baseball team,” Taulli said. “We are starting to play with a little more confidence, which is a good thing. It’s just that they are so good. They have very few holes in their team, if any.”

The Pirates are riding high after a three game winning streak over the course of the weekend.

The Pirates are going to need to use all the momentum the weekend gave them if they hope to beat the Patriots.

“You have to almost play a flawless game when you play them,” Taulli said.

The game starts at 4 p.m. at North Vermilion’s field.

These two teams don’t have to wait long before seeing each other again.

They will turn right back around and square off again on Thursday in Kaplan.
