Panthers travel to face Red Devils
After suffering a tough home loss last Thursday, the Delcambre Panthers travel to play the Port Barre Red Devils.
After winning their first game of the season versus Berwick, the Panthers have lost three consecutive games by an average of 15.6 points per game.
Multiple Delcambre players have been injured during the last three weeks, not aiding the Panthers in their quest for more victories.
In last week’s game versus Catholic of Pointe Coupee, Delcambre gained a 21-20 advantage, but seemed to hit a wall, due to injuries occurring at inopportune times.
Port Barre enters the game with a 2-2, and a win in last Friday’s game against the Abbeville Wildcats. Port Barre was able to score a touchdown as time expired to sneak past Abbeville.
The Red Devils offense is centered on running the football, and controlling the clock. It is a different style of play than what Delcambre faced last week versus a team like Pointe Coupee that could air the ball out.
Panther starting running back Bubba Latiolais has missed the last two games with injury, and he is questionable for this week’s game, according to head coach Darcy Delcambre. Latiolais is missed, but Zack Frederick has filled in, and produced at a high level, including 93 yards and a touchdown last week versus the Hornets.
Quarterback Zachary Trahan has been battling a fractured finger, and if he is unable to go, Cole Delcambre will step in at the helm of the offense. Delcambre threw a 58-yard touchdown to Seth Esponge in last week’s game.
The Panthers enter the game looking for a win to gain confidence before heading into district play.
