Panthers open district play versus Westminster

The Delcambre Panthers kick off district play versus the Westminster Crusaders Friday night.
Delcambre has momentum coming off of a 35-14 win against the Port Barre Red Devils. The Panthers have begun to get healthy including the return of starting running back Bubba Latiolais last week.
The running game propelled Delcambre in the win. The team rushed for 176 yards, with quarterback Zachary Trahan leading the way with 70 yards and two touchdowns. In his first game back, Latiolais rushed for 56 yards and a touchdown on 21 attempts.
The Crusaders have gotten off to a rough start in the 2014 season. Westminster enters the game 0-5, scoring a total of 28 points in the five losses.
Most recently, the Crusaders lost 44-0 to St. Edmunds. The offense struggled, gaining 111 yards of offense. The Crusaders rushed for 17 yards on 24 attempts. Quarterback Richard Hebert went 5-13 for 94 yards.
It is time for district play when the records go out of the window, and the level of competition is heightened. Delcambre will be looking to avenge a 27-21 loss suffered at the hands of the Crusaders last year.
Westminster is looking for their first win and Delcambre hopes to win this game and eclipse their win total from last year with four games left to play.
