Panthers go for 3 straight, face Tigers
The DelcambrePanthers take their two-game win streak on the road to play the Loreauville Tigers Friday.
After wins against Port Barre and Westminster, Delcambre (3-3) takes a step up in district class, to try and avenge a 42-3 loss at the hands of the Tigers last year.
Loreauville (3-3) is coming off of a loss to undefeated district opponent, Opelousas Catholic. The other two losses for the Tigers came against undefeated Church Point, and Central Catholic.
The Tigers were a pass-heavy squad last year with Raymond Bonnette at quarterback, but with Jarod Henry taking over at quarterback, Loreauville seems to be more balanced this year.
“Their offense seems to be 50-50,” said Delcambre head coach Darcy Delcambre. “The quarterback they have now is not as athletic as Bonnette, but he is still a good player. The team still has weapons on the outside. They are still a good offensive team.
Henry is a dual threat quarterback that has gashed teams on the ground up to this point in the season. He has 624 rushing yards on the year.
One of those weapons on the outside for Loreauville is Louisiana Tech commit, and Raymond’s younger brother, Rashid Bonnette. Bonnette is an All-State caliber receiver, and has caught 10 passes for 223 yards so far this season. Shea Lee has rushed for over 350 yards this season with eight touchdowns.
The Panthers enter the game looking to attack Loreauville with their running game led by Bubba Latiolais. So far this season, Latiolais has rushed for 324 yards on 79 attempts with three touchdowns. Zack Frederick and quarterback Zachary Trahan are also key pieces to the Panther run game.
“After winning two straight, our guys have some confidence,” said coach Delcambre. “They are realizing what they can do if they play together, but we know this will be a tough game.”
The two schools have identical records entering the game, but coach Delcambre mentioned that records can be misleading.
“Everyone looks at records, and sometimes they get the wrong idea about a team,” he said. “Loreauville has played some good football teams. We will have to be ready to play.”
