NV Patriots off to perfect 6-0 start

The North Vermilion Patriots have started the season with a perfect 6-0 record, and three of those wins came this past weekend.

Taking part in the Kaplan Tournament this past weekend, the Patriots swept their doubleheader on Saturday with wins of 9-4 over Catholic of Point Coupee, and a 3-0 win over Sacred Heart.

In the game against Sacred Heart, starting pitcher Ryan Meaux threw a complete game no hitter in the 3-0 win.

Then on Sunday they were able to finish the Kaplan Tournament with a perfect 3-0 record by defeating Kaplan 6-0.

“We have been playing pretty well,” Patriots Head Coach Jeremy Trahan said. “We have been getting some solid pitching. This past weekend in Kaplan was a bit of a test for us. We played some good teams, and I was proud of how the boys stepped up and played well.”

The Patriots have been able to get off to the quick 6-0 start because of the team continuity that coach Trahan has set up.

“The junior class has been with me for four years, and the one senior I have has been starting since he was a freshmen,” Trahan said. “So even though we have lost some practice time, our team is a veteran team that has been with me for a while and
know how to play a varsity baseball game.”

Leading the way for the Patriots, from the plate, is Ryan Thompson.

Thompson is batting a team high .421 and also leads the team in RBIs with 10.

Donald Comeaux led the Patriots on the mound, with two wins in two starts, and in his 10 innings pitched he has allowed no runs.

Comeaux has also struck out 13 opposing batters.

The Patriots have also played great defense as a team by allowing only 10 runs all season long.

The Patriots face off against Beau Chene last night, and are traveling to play in Choudrant this weekend.
