NV, Kaplan send 15 to state meet
The 2014 wrestling season is starting to come to a close, but before it does finish up, the State Championship meet starts today and continues through tomorrow.
North Vermilion was able to send a total of 11 wrestlers to the championship meet.
Morgan Melebeck is ranked eighth in the 106 pound weight class.
Gavin Baker, who is in the 113 pound weight class, is ranked second.
Also ranked second in his 120 pound weight class is Rhett Maturin.
Brennan Landry is ranked sixth in the 126 pound weight class.
Kenneth Vidallier is eighth in the 132 pound weight class.
Cameron Johnson is ranked seventh in the 145 pound weight class.
Ranking third in the 152 pound weight class is Colin Laird.
Brody LeMaire is in the 170 pound weight class and ranked fifth.
Colin Vaughn, who finished second in the state championship meet last year in the 182 pound weight class, is this year’s number one seed in the 182 pound weight class.
Johnathan Thompson is ranked third in the 195 pound weight class.
Last but not least for the Patriots is Blake Bernard, who is ranked fourth in the 220 pound weight class.
Kaplan was fortunate enough to have four wrestlers qualify for the state meet.
Ranked seventh in the 120 pound weight class is Taylor Harrington.
Tyrone Broussard is the fourth seed in the 132 pound weight class.
Daniel Lotief is ranked eighth in the 138 pound weight class.
Jude Hebert rounds out the qualifying Pirates as he is ranked fifth in the 152 pound weight class.
The state meet begins today and finishes tomorrow in Kenner.
