Notre Dame knocks Erath out of playoffs

CROWLEY - The Erath Lady Bobcats dropped a 53-34 game to the Notre Dame Lady Pios in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs on Thursday night.
The game, played at Crowley High School, was the third meeting between the two schools this season. NDHS now has a 2-1 edge over EHS.
The two teams started the first period trading baskets with Erath only down 19-15 with a minute to go in the first period.
The Lady Bobcats shot a cool 5 for 11 from the field, while ND canned 8 out of 12 shots in the first period.
What was once a four point deficit soon became a 10-point deficit a minute in the second period for EHS.
The Lady Bobcats missed seven straight shots to open the second period and finished the period making only two baskets.
Erath opened the third period scoring five straight points on a 3-pointer by Gabby Harrington and an inside shot by Alexis Lege.
Just like that, Erath was back in the game, only down, 28-24 at the 5:15 mark in the third frame.
But from that point on, the Lady Bobcats could not make a basket. After Harrington's trey, Erath did not make a basket in the third period. They scored four points at the free throw line and were down 37-28 heading into the final period.
Notre Dame's Madelyn LeJeune caught fire and scored four straight points to put ND up 43-28 with five minutes to play in the game. LeJeune finished with 22 points.
The Lady Bobcats finally scored a basket with 3:10 to play in the game.
So, for a total of nine out of 14 minutes in the second half, Erath did not make a basket.
Monette Bolden ended the drought for EHS when she made a layup (45-30) at the 3:10 mark.
The Lady Bobcats were 7 out of 28 from the floor shooting in the second half for 25 percent.
ND, on the other hand, was 47 percent (9 out of 19) in the second half. Hannah Estabay had 16 points, including 4 3-pointers for Notre Dame.
Erath was led by Gabby Harrington who had 15 points. Alexis Lege added 10 and Monette Bolden was held to seven points. Ashlyn Lege, Erath's only senior, had two points.
