Local teams ranked in preseason polls
The 2014 baseball season is about to get kick started in Vermilion Parish, and the Louisiana Baseball Coaches Association have come out with their 2014 Preseason Polls.
The highest ranking Vermilion Parish team is the Vermilion Catholic Eagles.
The Eagles are led by head coach Steven Adams, and according to the LBCA preseason polls find themselves ranked eighth in the 1A polls.
“Those rankings don’t mean much,” Adams said. “We have an entire season to play, and we have a lot of work to do. It is nice though to be up there, though.”
The North Vermilion Patriots were the only other team from the parish to be named inside the top 10.
The Patriots were ranked 10th in the 3A polls.
The Erath Bobcats were one of only seven teams to receive votes in the 3A poll.
As coach Adams mentioned, each of these teams listed and even the ones that were not, have a long season ahead of them, and anything can happen.
One thing is for sure though. It will be a fun season, and most of the teams in Vermilion Parish got their season underway last night.
