Lady Pirates prepare for round 2

The Kaplan Lady Pirates have passed the first round test, with a 12-2 win over Abbeville.
Now Kaplan prepares for its second round test in the form of Pine Prairie.
“They are a very good team,” Lady Pirates head coach Shay Herpin said. “They don’t make a lot of mistakes. They play good solid defense, and have a pitcher that can work the strike zone very well. We are going to have to be on top of our game if we want to win.”
The game against Pine Prairie is scheduled for this afternoon starting at 4 p.m., in Kaplan.
“You always like to play at home because of the crowd,” Herpin said. “Being at home means that we don’t have to travel, and that is always a good thing.”
Taking the mound for the Lady Pirates will be Abby Trahan, who has been the starting pitcher for most of the Kaplan victories this season.
It will be her first action on the mound in the playoffs this season.
“We will need Abby to pitch a good game,” Herpin said. “Above that we need to remember that this isn’t and individual game. If we want to win this game, and every other game we play this season, we are going to have to play as a team. We will all need to play good defense, and everyone needs to hit the ball well for us to succeed.”
One thing coach Herpin isn’t worried about is his team looking forward at the possible match-up against district rival North Vermilion.
“There is no North Vermilion game if we don’t beat Pine Prairie,” Herpin said. “Our kids understand that you have to take it one game at a time.”
The game tonight is scheduled to start a 4 p.m. in Kaplan.
