Lady Pirates continue to roll
The Kaplan Lady Pirates are continuing to roll as they racked up their fifth straight win, with a 6-0 victory over the Erath Lady Bobcats on Thursday night.
The Lady Pirates got up early on the Lady Bobcats by scoring a run in the top of the first and two more runs in the top of the second.
Those would be enough to win the game, but the Lady Pirates would add three more insurance runs in the firth inning.
“It feels good to get a win, especially a district win,” Lady Pirates Head Coach Shay Herpin said. “We just aren’t playing to our capabilities. We have to step it up a notch because there are some really good teams out there, and if we want to beat them we are going to have to play better than we did today.
“I’m glad we got the win, but the simple fact is we want to win more than just district. To do that, we are going to have to play better softball.”
Abby Trahan had another good day on the mound for the Lady Pirates.
Trahan pitched all seven innings and didn’t allow a run. She only gave up four hits, and struck out 10 Lady Bobcats.
The Lady Pirates record now stands at 17-5 overall and 7-1 in district play.
The Lady Pirates will be back on the field for their last week of district games on Tuesday when they face off against Abbeville at Abbeville.
The Lady Bobcats record drops down to 12-14 overall and 2-6 in district play.
The Lady Bobcats will try to snap their eight game losing streak when they host West St. Mary on Tuesday.
