Lady Eagles unknown spark plug

When it comes to the Vermilion Catholic Lady Eagles Basketball team, the first names that come to mind are: Katie Frith, Ashailee Brailey and Kaylen Collins.

Well, there is one name that is often left out, but is just as important as the names you do know, and that’s Ellen Langlinais.

Ellen is a senior at VC and has only been a starter for the Lady Eagles this season and towards the end of last season, but in that short time she has already placed herself in high regards with both her coaches and teammates.

“She (Ellen) is just a class act,” Lady Eagles Head Coach Kim Guidry said. “Whether it’s in a game or in practice she gives you everything shes got. She plays hurt and you will never hear here complain. She is a silent player, but she is the most coachable kid I
have ever coached.”

Ellen’s teammates feel the exact same way about her as coach Guidry does.

“I love Ellen,” Junior point guard Ashailee Brailey said. “Ellen is just one of those players that does the smallest things to help us win a game. She is going at it during practice, and she never stops. I love her.”

Ellen’s love of the game of basketball was one that sort of had to be coaxed into her.

“I didn’t even really want to play,” Langlinais said. “When I was in the fifth grade we could try out for the sixth grade team, and my dad was really into basketball and wanted me to do it. So I did, and I have loved it ever since.”

That love of the game has propelled her forward to where she started the latter half of last season, and most importantly in the championship run made by the Lady Eagles last year. Along with every game this season.

Her spark and her “never say never” attitude may be the key to the Lady Eagles winning ways.

“I just try to bring positivity to the team,” Langlinais said. “It makes it a little easier to do that when we are all friends. That may be my favorite part of playing basketball, I get to be with my second family.”

That attitude goes a long way in the locker room and on the court for the Lady Eagles.

Ellen Laglinais is the true definition of “you never know how much you will love something until you give it a try.”

She has gone from not wanting to play the game of basketball, to starting, winning a State Championship and now missing it when it is all over.
