Lady Cat Relays get underway today
The annual Lady Cat Relays get off and running today starting at four p.m.
The annual meet will host around 10 different teams at the Erath track and field complex.
The meet is scheduled to get started around four p.m. for the field events and six p.m. for the track events.
Erath Lady Bobcats head coach Johnathan Bouillion knows just how much work goes into getting the complex ready for a track meet.
“It takes a lot of work,” Bouillion said. “We stayed till nine (p.m.) on Monday to make sure we had everything ready to go. It does take a lot of help from the community and the school, and I’m glad that I have all of their help.”
Along with getting the field painted, the sand pits covered for the rain and making sure the timing system is ready to go, coach Bouillion also has to coach a team that has lost some valuable practice time.
“We started working on Sundays to make up for lost practice time,” Bouillion said. “As far as this meet, we are going to treat it as another practice meet. I’m still trying to figure out where we are going to put everyone because we are working for the
ultimate goal of peaking at the district meet.”
Hosting your tournament also has the advantages of being at home, and being more comfortable because that is where the Erath Lady Bobcats practice.
“I tell the girls not to worry about the competition, but to worry about the clock and the tape,” Bouillion said. “Being at home makes that a little easier. Performances are better at home because they are just more familiar here.”
The Lady Cat Relays are scheduled to get underway at 4, but if the rain is persistent, then the meet will be pushed back to Friday as part of the Snooks Relays.
