Lady Bobcats ready for round one

The Lady Bobcats found out on Monday that they were going to be traveling to Baton Rouge to take on University Lab in the first round of the 3A State Championship Playoff Tournament.

“Everyone is still really excited,” Lady Bobcats Head Coach Andrea Bernard said. “We were sure we were going to be in last Friday. Now that we know who we are playing, it gives us a chance to prepare. We have been practicing hard and will be as ready as we can be come Thursday night.”

The Lady Bobcats finished the year ranked 3rd in the district 6-3A with a 6-5 district record and a 14-12 overall record.

Their regular season was good enough to land them in the 30th spot in the playoffs.

It had been a stressful final couple of weeks for the Lady Bobcats because they have sat in the 30th spot of the power rankings for the past two weeks.

Their hard work and determination paid off as they were able to get through the regular season and now prepare for University Lab.

University Lab finished the season with a 25-6 overall record and a perfect 12-0 district record.

University Lab is also currently riding a 17 game winning streak, and they have won 19 of their last 20 games.

“University Lab is a good team, and we will have our work cut out for us,” Bernard said. “We are just going to practice hard and go out there and play the best basketball we can play.”

With the game being played in Baton Rouge, it will be the farthest the Lady Bobcats have traveled to play an away game.

Despite this being the farthest they have gone, coach Bernard isn’t concerned about the travel.

“I’m not worried about the travel aspect of things,” Bernard said. “I don’t let things like that bother me. I have more important things to worry about, and we are just approaching this game as just another away game.

If the Lady Bobcats are going to come home with a victory, they are going to have to rely on their seniors, as they have heavily, down the stretch.

Alexis Harrington, Alexa Faulk, Caitlin Domingues, Jasmine LeJeune, Sydney Richardelle and Ashley Dubois have been the backbone for the Lady Bobcats all season long.

They know that this could be their very last high school basketball game, and they are going to go out there and give it everything that they have.

The game against University Lab is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. Thursday night in Baton Rouge at University Lab.
