Kaplan takes care of West St Mary, 48-7

BALDWIN- The Kaplan Pirates are streaking.
The team wrapped up their fifth consecutive victory with a 48-7 thumping of West St. Mary.
For the fifth time in as many games, the Pirates rushed for over 300 yards.
Kaplan got started quickly when Julius Johnson got loose for a 55-yard touchdown run 18 seconds into the game.
Darren Istre joined in with a 6-yard run with 3 :45 left in the first quarter to give Kaplan a two-score advantage.
Early in the second quarter, Justin Stoute scored from three yards out to put Kaplan up by 21.
West St. Mary’s only score came on a 14-yard pass from Dondre Johnson to Shelby Phillips with 9:02 left in the half.
Kaplan scored 15 points on the back of Johnson. in the final 2:51 of the half.
He scored on a 1-yard run and ran in the 2-point conversion. With no time left on the clock, he scored on a 3-yard run to put the Pirates up 36-7 at half.
Arizona State commit Jalen Bates got in on the action in the third quarter.
The defensive end scooped up a fumble and returned it 25 yards for the score.
Rhett Menard scored on a 3-yard run in the fourth quarter to end the onslaught by Kaplan.
Johnson led Kaplan with 118 yards and three touchdowns on 18 carries.
Istre was second in rushing with 59 yards.
Quarterback Jade Herpin completed 5 out of 10 passes for 61 yards.
Bates was the leading receiver, hauling in three passes for 36 yards.
Kaplan goes for six straight next Friday at home against Erath.
