The Kaplan girls took home first place.

Kaplan sweeps parish track meet

ERATH - The Kaplan Pirates and the Lady Pirates took home the first place trophies after winning the 2016 parish track and field meet on Friday.
The Lady Pirates won 10 out of 18 event and cruised to the title.
They just about had it sewed up coming out of the field events, picking up 65 points.
Kendra Gums won three events and earned 30 points by herself, earning the Outstanding Field Performer.
She won the high jump (5-0), long jump (16-5) and triple jump (36-3).
Tyra Francis was a double winner in the field events. She won the discus (96-03) and the shot put (34-9 1/2).
Tory Riggs was a double winner for Kaplan. Riggs won the 100 meter dash (12.9), 200 meter dash (26.44) and she also ran on the winning 4x100 and 4x200 meter relay teams.
She won the outstanding track athlete award.
Leah Frick of Kaplna won the 1600 meter run (6:14.85).
The KHS Lad Pirates 4x100 relay team and 4x200 relay team dominated.
The KHS 4x100 relay team of Ashlyn Hebert, SaDiera Goodwill, Blair Hebert and Riggs ran a winning time of 51.17.
The KHS 4x200 relay team of Hebert, Riggs, Gums and Goodwin won with a time of 1:48.93.
The was the fourth meet Kaplan girls win this year.
Long time Kaplan track coach Craig Blanchard did not put any pressure on the Lady Pirates.
“We could not worry about what other teams are going to do,” said Blanchard. “We had to go out and do what we do.”
He used the parish meet as a pre-district warm-up meet.

Pirates have

Unlike the Lady Pirates, the Kaplan Pirates did not have the luxury of having 10 first places. They had scratch for each point they earned.
Kaplan won four events.
Julius Lloyd (51.85) and Grant Frick (52.66) went one, two in the 400 meter run.
Kaplan had two first places in the relay races.
The KHS 4x200 relay team of Ryan Gratz, Frick, TJ Broussard and Lloyd won with a time of 1:33.51.
The KHS 4x400 relay team of Austin Simon, Lloyd, Adam Courville and Frick ran a winning time of 3:34.83.
Kaplan got 18 points in the shot put with a first and second place finish.
Payton Gaspard won with a toss of 44-1. Teammate Quintlan Cobb was second (44-0).
Kaplan boys head coach Donald Richard said what won Kaplan parish was the guys who second, third and fourth.
“We scored points in each event and it began to add up,” said Richard. “We are building the program in Kaplan, and don’t have that fast stud. We get a lot of second and third places and score points that way. It adds up.”
Kaplan’s TJ Broussard won the outstanding performer award.
He scored 20 points with a second in the triple jump (42-0), fourth in the 100 meter dash (11.93) and second in the 200 meter dash (23.86).
VC’s Emile Trahan won the 100 meter dash (11.45), 200 meter dash (23.01) and was a member the 400 and 800 meter relay teams His 24.5 points earned him the outstanding track award.
Ann Marie Broussard of Abbeville was the female outstanding performer. She won the 300 meter hurdles (49.31), second in the 100 meter hurdles (16.84) and third in the pole vault (10-0).
