Kaplan outlasts Delcambre 48-40

Bates’ 16 propels Pirates to win

Kaplan improved their record to 1-2 on the season with an 8-point win over Delcambre Tuesday night in the parish tournament.
Delcambre’s ability to shoot from long range gave them a chance to win the game, but Kaplan’s combination of size and speed prevailed in the final quarter.
The Panthers earned 18 of their points from the 3-point line and had a chance to win the game in the final minutes of the game, Kaplan’s duo of Darren Istre and Jalen Bates held off the Panther charge.
Istre and Bates scored 17 of Kaplan’s 24 points in the second half.
Bates led the team with 16 points, followed by Istre with 9. Hunter Stelly scored 8 and Kain Broussard 7.
Chris Borel led the Panthers with 13, and guard Brayton Trahan scored 11 for Delcambre, including nine from behind the arc.
With the loss, Delcambre was eliminated from the tournament, and Kaplan advanced to the next round to play North Vermilion Wednesday night after the Meridional went to press.
