Kaplan defensive end Jalen Bates chooses Arizona State
Kaplan senior defensive end Jalen Bates announces his commitment to Arizona State University via Twitter on Tuesday.
Bates is rated as a three-star recruit by ESPN and Rivals. The senior received offers from Mississippi State, Michigan, Ole Miss, Oregon State, TCU and Texas Tech.
Bates is rated as a top 100 strong-side defensive end in the nation by Rivals and ESPN. He visited Arizona State in late August, and was primarily recruited by Mike Norvell.
Bates, the 6-foot-5, 235-pound defensive end, narrowed his options to a final five of Arizona State, Texas Tech, Mississippi State, Louisiana-Lafayette and Michigan.
Arizona State head coach Todd Graham expressed his excitement over the pledge of Bates Tuesday morning.
“Boom! great way to start the day!!!,” he exclaimed.
Bates is the 13th commitment to the Sun-Devil’s current class. His commitment is strictly non-verbal, and it will be non-binding until the first week of February.
