Harrington is having fun

The game of baseball is suppose to be about having fun, and playing for the love of the sport.
For the Abbeville 29’ers Jace Harrington that is exactly why he is out here in the middle of the summer playing baseball.
“I have been playing this game since I was four,” Jace Harrington said. “I love the game of baseball and have since I was a little kid. It also doesn’t hurt that I know when I come out here and play with this team, that everyone hear wants to win, but more importantly they want to have fun. So that makes it easier to come play in the middle of the summer.”
Harrington was a senior at Erath, and for him signing up to play for this team seemed a little like walking into enemy territory.
Of the 15 players that make up the 29’ers roster, only four players didn’t attend or play for the North Vermilion baseball team.
“Honestly, I didn’t know what to expect jumping on a team full of Patriots,” Jace Harrington said. “It has been a lot of fun, and it doesn’t hurt that we have been winning a lot. We have been bonding, and because of that we have been winning and having a good time.”
Despite playing with a bunch of district rivals, Harrington has found a way to have some fun, and bond with a bunch of new teammates.
One of the main reasons Harrington decided to play for the 29’ers, was because he knew that playing on a team of good ball players would only make his game better.
“I am wanting to try to play baseball at the next level,” Harrington said. “With this team I think that they will help my chances of being able to do that.
“This team has helped me in so many ways. It is nice to have a bunch of guys in the dugout that are good at the game of baseball, you don’t have any choice but to get better. That coupled with the help of Mr. Darin (Desormeaux) I feel my game has gotten better since I have been on this team.”
On top of that his coach has only great things to say about Harrington.
“Jace is a great kid,” 29’ers head coach Darin Desormeaux said. “I have been watching Jace for sometime now. Jace is one of those kids that you put him on the corner of the infield and he will secure them.
“He had an awesome year on the mound for Erath, and on top of that he is a talented catcher as well. Jace is a great kid, and has been an excellent asset for this team.
Harrington is the kind of kid that plays the game of baseball because he loves it and it is fun, and there are no better reasons to play.
