Ground-Up! basketball was a huge success

The Ground Up! organization is a a non-profit organization that is compromised of young men blazing new trails and mentoring boys and girls as well as the community based in Abbeville.
This past weekend they hosted their second annual 4-on-4 Hoop off and Fun day.
The community was welcomed to join in the four on four basketball tournament, food and other fun events for the family.
Along with hosting the annual basketball tournament, the members of the Ground Up! team put up new basketball goals, and gave away a bike to one lucky boy and girl.
The bikes were won by Keandra Levy and Derrian January.
There were well over 300 people that showed up to enjoy the festivities of the Hoop Off.
Next year the Ground Up! team is hoping to make the event bigger and better.
They are already planning on painting the courts, and helping the community of Abbeville out in any way they can.
Next year they are also hoping to expand the basketball tournament to women as well.
The Ground Up! crew is made up of local Abbeville natives that through the game of basketball have been able to move and attend college.
The members of Groudn Up! would like to thank everyone that came out to enjoy the festivities.
They would also like to thank everyone that played a part, no matter how small, in helping put on the annual basketball tournament and fun day.
Members include Delontra Fields who attends Sioux Falls University, Alonzo Williams who attends Texas A.M., JJ Davenport and Tiremone Williams who both attend the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Dajuan Smith who attends Santa Barbara University, Akeem Lewis goes to the University of South Alabama, Dawayne Benjamin attends Oregon University and several others.
All of these young men got their start right here in the Abbeville area, and through the sport of basketball have been able to take their games and their lives to college.
They know how important it is to remember where you started, and that is why they have started the Ground Up! organization.
These members plus so many others want to help the kids of Abbeville reach their full potential, and realize the dream of going to college.
