Granger throws no-hitter in Bobcats’ shutout win
The Erath Bobcat baseball team rebounded from a tough loss against St. Charles with a 10-0 win at home against Fairview Thursday evening.
The game started behind schedule because of rain, but it didn’t stop Erath pitcher Ross Granger from tossing a no-hitter and helping the Bobcats finish the game in five innings.
“You’re always concerned about how they handle adversity and obviously we had some,” said Erath head coach David Jordan. “We got flat for a while and there wasn’t a lot of noise. The rain kept the fans away, but we did our job at the plate and Ross didn’t have his best stuff early on, but he kept working and his last inning was his best, which was good to see.”
After a walk gave the Bobcats their first points of the game, Granger sent a shot to right field that scored two runs to put Erath up 3-0 at the bottom of the second inning.
Shortstop Jesse Jordan doubled to score a run in the fourth and a few batters later, Jordan stole home as part of a big inning that would put Fairview away.
Granger continued his dominance on the mind to shut the door on any hopes of a comeback.
The senior finished with two strikeouts in the game.
“I started off shaky at the beginning,” Granger said. “I had a couple of adjustments to make, but once I finally settled in, I felt like I had a good basis to build off of and I have a lot of faith in my guys behind me.”
Granger was 2-3 with 2 RBIs. Jordan went 2-3 with an RBI. Ben LeBlanc’s sacrifice fly scored two runs to end the game.
The Bobcats begin district play Monday against Notre Dame and coach Jordan had one word to describe the momentum Thursday’s win could have for his squad moving forward.
“Big,” he said. “We have a three-game home stretch. We simply can’t lose at home. We have to make sure we take care of business at home and try to steal a few from some good teams on the road. Hopefully we believe that. We’ve been on the road enough where we should be comfortable, relaxed and take care of business.”
The first pitch against Notre Dame is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. from Erath.
