Fields signs with Sioux Falls University

Delontra Fields, a 2011 graduate from Abbeville High, has spent the last two years at Mount San Jacinto College in California.

Over the course of those two years he has been bettering himself on and off of the football field, which has led to the important moment on Wednesday night.

Fields signed his letter of intent with Sioux Falls University, in South Dakota, to play football as what he calls the athlete position.

“I am very excited,” Fields said. “It is like a dream come true. This is something I have worked for all of my life, and it makes the past two years of my life totally worth it. I am just so excited.”

Delontra went to MSJC to help get himself better at the game of football, and it did just that.

“Coming to MSJC has made me a better person and athlete,” Fields said. “It has humbled me and brought the best out of me by making me work hard and train hard.”

Along with making him a better athlete on the field, his time at MSJC has made him a better person off of the field as well.

“This experience has helped me to learn that I should never give up,” Fields said. “It (time spent at MSJC) has taught me that no matter what obstacles get in your way, on and off the football field, that hard work and
determination will get you over those obstacles, and along the way it makes you a stronger person as well.”

Fields will be suiting up for the Cougars of Souix Falls University this upcoming football season.

The Cougars are a member of Division II, and USF has a pedigree of championships.

Sioux Falls has won four NAIA football championships since 1996.

USF moved from NAIA to NCAA Division II in 2012.

Since moving up from NAIA the Cougars football team has amassed a record of 14-7.
