Erath travels to take on Brusly

The Erath Bobcats became the last Vermilion Parish baseball team standing in the playoffs, with a 6-0 win over De La Salle on Friday night.
Now, they look to become one of the last eight teams standing in all of Class 3A.
The Bobcats are traveling to take on Brusly tonight in Brusly.
First pitch is scheduled to be thrown out at 6 p.m. tonight.
“We are excited to be in the second round,” Erath head coach David Jordan said. “Every win you can get is important, and the playoff wins are even more important obviously.
“Our kids are up beat right now, and there isn’t a lot going on at Erath, right now, as far as athletics go, so it is a good time for us. It seems like a lot of the attention is on the players, and that makes them feel confident, and a confident baseball player is a better baseball player.”
Brusly enters this second round match-up against Erath with a 21-8 record.
In their first round game, Brusly easily defeated Patterson by the final score of 10-0 in five innings.
Coach Jordan knows that Brusly is well coached, and that his team is going to have to play a good game to get past the number six team in Class 3A.
“They are a good baseball team,” Jordan said. “They are an experienced team too. They were in the semifinals last year, and that experience makes them an even batter team.
“They are well coached and have really good ball players. Anytime you go up against a team that has that combo, they are a tough team to beat.”
Despite the record and the fact the Bobcats have to travel, coach Jordan feels they are prepared for the challenge ahead of them, thanks to the difficult regular season schedule.
“We don’t have two-a-days in baseball,” Jordan said. “In football they get those two-a-days to figure out who wants to play, and who is going to be there when the rubber meets the road. Well, in baseball we just have a tough schedule.
“With that, we then find out who is going to be ready when the going gets tough, and we played some good teams this year, and I feel as a team we are ready for the challenge ahead of us. We just have to remember the game of baseball doesn’t change. We still have to do the little things properly to win games.”
The Bobcats also aren’t worried about playing on the road.
“Of course you would rather play at home, but this team is ready to play on the road as well,” Jordan said. “This will be the seniors fourth straight year to play a second round road game, and they are prepared for this.”
In order for the Bobcats to make a deep run in the playoffs, they are going to have to rely on the solid pitching of Jace Harrington, Ross Granger and Brett Delcambre.
These three have a combined record of 14-4 on the season.
Harrington got the victory in the first round game over De La Salle.
The winner of this game will move on and play the winner of the E.D. White vs. W. Feliciana game.
The game is scheduled for 6 p.m. tonight in Brusly.
