Erath renews rivalry with Lady Pirates

The Lady Bobcats of Erath are entering the bulk of their district schedule starting tonight as they play host to the Kaplan Pirates at the Quality Sports Authority fields.

Both teams heading into this game are in similar situations.

They both have a 1-1 district record, both teams are riding winning streaks. Erath’s is three games and Kaplan’s is four games long and they both have something to prove.

Erath is trying to prove that they belong in the conversation of best team in 6-3A.

“I believe that we have the toughest district in the state,” Erath Head Coach Lance Beal said. “Notre Dame, North Vermilion and Kaplan are all great teams, and we want to be a part of that group.

“I think we have shown that we can play with those teams, but now we just need to learn how to close out a game. Competing with those teams is not good enough. We want to beat those teams.”

While the Lady Bobcats are trying to prove that they belong, the Lady Pirates are trying to prove why they are still one of the best.

The Lady Pirates started the season off on a four game winning streak, and then lost four of their next five games.

It seems as though the Lady Pirates have righted the ship by winning its last three games this past weekend in the Parkview Baptist Tournament.

As mentioned before both teams have a 1-1 record in district, and coach Beal knows how important it is to get a leg up on the rest of the district.

“It is very important to get a win over Kaplan,” Beal said. “Not only will it give us a leg up on the district standings, but it will show our girls that, not only can we compete with the best, we can beat them. So with that it is very important to get a win.”

The game is scheduled to start at 5:30 at the Lady Bobcats field out at the QSA in Erath tonight.
