Erath Lady Bobcats stun Notre Dame

ERATH - The Erath Lady Bobcats (10-9 overall) had a great week of basketball this past week.
First, they beat the Abbeville Lady Wildcats on Tuesday, a team they have only beaten once in four years. Then, on Friday, Erath stunned Notre Dame 50-49. Erath has not beaten Notre Dame in years.
With the win, Erath, North Vermilion and Notre Dame are in a three-way tie for first place in district at 3-1.
“We have never beaten Notre Dame,” said EHS head coach Andrea Bernard. “This is a team that deserves to beat them.”
Erath led by 10 at halftime but then watched it disappear in the second half because of Notre Dame’s Madelyn LeJeune, who scored 28 points in the game.
Notre Dame led 47-42 with 2:23 to play in the game.
Erath rallied behind point guard Monette Bolden. She got the rebound and drove the length of the court for a layup to cut it to 47-46 with 1:23 to play.
With 43 seconds to play in the game, Bolden drove the paint and scored to help Erath reclaim the lead 48-47 with 34 seconds to play. Notre Dame retook the lead 49-48 seconds later.
Then, Logan Goutierrez nailed a long jumper with her foot on the three-point line to give the Lady Bobcats the lead for good at the 14-second mark.
Goutierrez came off the bench in the first half and sparked the Lady Bobcats by hitting two big baskets. She finished the game with nine points.
