Erath High boys crush ESA

The Erath Bobcats have now won three out of their last five games, cruising to a 46-23 victory over Episcopal School of Acadiana (ESA) on Friday.
The Bobcats had three players score in double digits in the victory.
Freshman Elijah Mitchell led with 14 points.. Seniors Alec Toups had 12 and Aaron Greene added 11 for EHS.
Most of the Bobcats’ points came within five feet of the basket. Their points were either layups or baby jumpers inside the free throw line.
Erath head coach Tommie Pillette said it was not his game-plan to shoot closer to the goal. His offense did what ESA’s defense allowed them to do.
“We knew they would trap us on top with two players,” said Pillette. “When they did that, that meant three on four, with us having more players than them. We took advantage of what they gave us.”
Because they were close to the basket all night, Erath shot just under 50 percent from the field.
The Bobcats had a commanding lead the entire four quarters. Erath jumped out to a 8-0 lead before ESA scored its first points. At the end of the first quarter, EHS was in front 9-2.
The Greene-Mitchell combination blew the game open in the second quarter. Mitchell scored six of his 14 points in the second period with Greene getting the assists.
In the second half, it was pretty much the same. Toups drove in the lane three times for easy layups.
At the free throw line, Erath was an impressive eight out of 11.
Other scorers for Erath were Ross Bares (3), Jeremiah Mitchell (4), and Nick Suire (2).
