Erath 16s win ASA state title
ERATH - The 16-and-Under Erath All-Stars battled through the loser’s bracket to win the 2014 Louisiana ASA Jr. Olympic State Girls Slowpitch Tournament.
On Sunday in Erath, Erath beat Lake Charles 12-6 in the first game of the finals, forcing a second and final game.
The Erath, sponsored by O Reily Auto Parts, took advantage of Lake Charles’ pitcher who was unable to find the strike zone.
Erath cruised a 10-0 victory to win state.
Many of the same girls for Erath, won the 14-year-old state title last year.
Getting the victory on the hill for both games in the finals was pitcher Mikel LeBlanc. In the last game, LeBlanc did not allow a run.
Erath was knocked into the loser’s bracket Sunday by Lake Charles. Erath had to play Kaplan’s Southern Heat to reach the finals.
Erath had little trouble, cruising to a 14-4 win over Kaplan.
Erath scored six runs in the first inning and three in the second to jump out to a 9-1 lead.
Madison Landry had four hits, while Daijah Phillips and Holie Mire each had three hits against Kaplan.
Kendra Gums had a double and a triple for Kaplan.
In Erath’s final three games, a total of 36 runs were scored.
The team is made up of Erath and Abbeville girls.
